To tweet or not to tweet
As with a few of the other's blogging about Twitter, I'm finding this a pointless venture on a personal level. And I have a great sanity-inducing philosophy of remaining blissfully unaware of unnecessary information. Twitter attacks that philosophy with a vengeance, and in the long run, I really don't care! I don't want to know what people are doing every minute of every day. I have enough trouble keeping track of myself. Countering that, however, I do see in this a great tool to communicate daily events, programs, new materials and endless other happenings at the library to the masses who do find twitter enthralling......and I am wise enough to know, that even if this particular medium isn't my cup of tea, it IS for a vast number of others. Now, not to be accused of negating something out of hand, I do intend to 'play' with this a little more, and I will be big enough to admit it if eventually I find myself drawn in. Time will tell.
Test Blog #2
Actually, being a newbie, I was very surprised at how easy it was to set up this blog and get started; well - once you get past the what-in-the-world-will-I-ever-write-about stage. I would love to be organized enough, and prolific enough to do a regular blog for our library website. But in the meantime, I think I'll spend some time just writing personal blither, aside from this class, of course, til I think I'm ready to venture forth. I also really need to start following a few blogs out there just to get a feel for what others are doing and saying.
Test Blog # 1 Blogging? Argh!
"Miss Lori? Do they ever let you out'a this room?" asked one very serious preschooler as he was lining up with his class after a weekly storytime. Very seriously I replied, "Yes, sometimes they even let me go into THAT room," and pointed to the library proper. In my 18 years and counting as a children's librarian I always hear something new from the mouths of babes. Its what keeps things interesting - and entertaining.
So, I'm starting a blog, for starters as an assignment. The fear of someone reading my insignificant ramblings has kept me from this technology. But, its time to face the fear, relax and go with it. After reviewing The 7 1/2 Steps to Life-long Learning I'd say its time to practice what I preach. I'm very good at encouraging others to 'go for it' or 'sign up for' that, but have little confidence in encouraging myself to face those same challenges. Be prepared, I'm jumping in.
